Amy Thornton Artworks

BIOGRAPHY

Amy Thornton could hardly help becoming an artist. Born to artistic parents who involved her in a range of experiences, creativity became second nature. At one time or another she was involved with spinning wool and weaving it on a loom her father built, firing ceramics in her mother's kiln, painting in her father's art studio, and hand-setting type on the family's 1859 letterpress—not to mention piano and guitar lessons!

She participated in juried shows, workshops, and special projects throughout her early years, and gifted and talented programs had her creating art curriculum for the community while still in high school. After graduating summa cum laude from Colorado State University she traveled extensively throughout Europe and lived in London. She lived and showed her work in Manhattan from the late 1980s to mid-'90s.

The past twenty-five years have been a journey of unfolding creativity inspired by her growing interest in spiritual studies and energy. Inspired by modern dance, she left representational art in 1979 to carve out what is now her unique calligraphic and expressionistic style.

Ms. Thornton now lives in Denver, Colorado, where she continues to show her work and focuses on creating private plexiglas commissions for commercial and residential clients. Her unique approach was featured on a local television broadcast, as she often invites her collectors to add their energy by placing a small stroke or touch to the final painting.

Some of her current works on mylar are rich with texture and multiple layers, reflecting the richness of this artist's life and affirm the hope of more to come.
